Technical Theatre Symposium 2019

Join us for our 5th Annual Technical Theatre Symposium where we bring together our Scottish Further and Higher Education Network Institutions and Scottish theatre industry professionals to discuss a range of technical theatre and design topics, including skills training and career pathways. This year, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The morning includes a complimentary breakfast and a choice of Professional Development Workshops at the National Theatre of Scotland production base, Rockvilla, including Hair, Make Up & Special FX with Freelance Artist Michelle Lyons, QLab for AV Design with Freelance Video Artist Jamie Wardop, Scenic Art with Gary Fry and Sound Design with award winning Sound Designer for National Theatre of Scotland Richard Price.

The afternoon begins with lunch at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Renfrew Street building, followed by a Symposium featuring spotlight guest speakers and break out sessions, with talks from Federation of Scottish Theatre, Vanishing Point and University of the West of Scotland. The day will end with a reception at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Delegates can register for the full day (Workshops and Symposium) or the afternoon (Symposium only). Please note the morning session has limited capacity and Network lecturers will be given priority booking until Monday 7th January 2019.

Please note: if you are booking is only for  the afternoon Symposium session, registration for this begins at 1330 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Workshop Information

Sound Design with award winning Designer for National Theatre of Scotland Richard Price.

A practical workshop where you will get the chance to record, edit and playback vocals. Richard will share his tricks of the trade and demonstrate how to source sound FX, Qlab and Audacity basics, along with sound desk operation on analogue and digital desks.

Scenic Art with Gary Fry, Lecturer in Scenic Art at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Get messy in this hands on workshop! Learn a selection of scenic art techniques and gain insider knowledge from Gary on the effects that work best in theatre. You will have the opportunity to try these out and make your own to take away.

Qlab for A.V with Glasgow based Maker and Designer Jamie Wardrop:

Jamie will draw on his extensive experience of 3D Animation, Installation, Composing, Live Video and Projection Mapping to deliver a hands on workshop on Qlab for Audio Visuals.

Hair, Makeup and Special Effects with TV, Theatre and Film Makeup Artist Michelle Lyons:

Create your own fake wounds in this practical hair, make up and special effects workshop. Learn a variety of industry standard preparation methods and techniques for theatrical hair and makeup with Michelle.
