Sound Designer at NTS
Richard began his career at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry as Assistant Sound engineer. He then went onto be Head of Sound at the Leicester Haymarket, mixing the sound for large musicals. After, he spent two years in Ibiza mixing sound for cabaret show on the island. The next 10 years were spent in Plymouth at the Theatre Royal as Head of Sound. In Plymouth he worked on many large touring musicals including Mary Poppins, Jerry Springer, the Opera and Quadrophenia. Sound Designs at the Plymouth include Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure, The Shape of Things and many pantomimes.
Following Plymouth Theatre Royal, Richard was Head of Sound at the Chichester Festival Theatre. This was during the Theatres Renew Project where the main theatre was relocated to 1300 seated tent on the nearby park. The main show being Barnum followed by Neville’s Island. Richard has also worked extensively with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. Sound designs include Our Days of Rage in the Old Vic Vaults and the 2012 Olympic Welcome ceremonies in the Olympic Village.
Richard has been working full time for the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) for a year and six months, following working with NTS as the sound designer for their production 306:The Dawn, shortlisted for “Best Sound and Music” at the CATS Awards.
