Monday 13 November 2017
9.30am – 3.30pm

The Scottish Drama Training Network has partnered with the King’s Theatre, Royal Lyceum Theatre and Traverse Theatre to offer a unique careers day for senior pupils from Edinburgh schools.

We are inviting senior pupils from schools in Edinburgh to come together on 13 November 2017 to take part in a day of interactive workshops at three of Edinburgh’s top performing arts venues. Each venue will offer a unique workshop which will reveal the many career pathways available in theatre:

Costume Design at the King’s Theatre

Join us for a an exploration of costume design and detail at the Kings Theatre which presents productions from the west end and beyond. Pupils will have the chance to take part in designing making and wearing their own creations whilst learning about the roles of the costume designer, the maker and the dresser. This workshop will be fast paced, informative, highly interactive and is designed to give your pupils a practical introduction to the world of costume, all using recycled materials.

Transforming Theatre Spaces at the Traverse Theatre

In this workshop, pupils will visit Scotland’s New Writing Theatre to explore presenting theatre outwith a traditional proscenium arch. Pupils will have the opportunity to learn about previous Traverse productions that have transformed the two iconic theatre spaces, whilst learning about the different job roles in the Traverse Production Team used to bring imagined worlds into a staged reality.  Pupils will have the opportunity to learn from Traverse Technicians and experiment with their own designs.

Set Design and Construction at the Royal Lyceum Theatre’s Roseburn studio.

The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh is Scotland’s largest producing Theatre Company.  The theatre works across three different venues, one of which is The Lyceum Workshop at Roseburn. The Workshop is where all of our sets and costumes are made for the stage. In this exclusive tour, there will be an opportunity to find out more about set construction and building, see model boxes of set designs past and present and try on some of our spectacular costumes.
