Caitlin’s weekend at GFF Industry Focus
Our delegate Caitlin Macintyre gives feedback on her weekend at the Glasgow Film Festival Industry Focus. She was one of three of our network students who received an SDTN funded pass for the weekend’s programme of sessions for all levels of filmmaking professionals. The weekend included 121 surgeries with leading industry professionals, plenty of drop-in sessions and special guests. It even included an opportunity for filmmakers to pitch to Channel 4, and a panel event looking at the changing attitudes to horror cinema.
Firstly, I am honoured to have been chosen as a delegate, as it has been a pleasure to learn more about the opportunities available in the industry. I have spent the last week speaking with filmmakers, directors, lecturers, festival programmers and writers, all of whom hold different insights into the wonderful world of the moving image. I have learned so much about current industry practices, as well as different ways to explore interesting and dynamic ways of storytelling. This experience has not only inspired me to try new things in my writing but has also been incredibly useful for my personal progression, by providing me with the confidence to really get myself involved in conversation at networking events. I have gained a new appreciation for the capabilities of collaboration, after discovering the uniquely powerful sense of community within the industry and I’m very excited to plan the next step in my creative journey.
