Spring: Uncovered with RCS and Dundee Rep

On Friday 23 March the Scottish Drama Training Network, in partnership with Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s The Exchange hosted a Q&A event with the cast and creative team from Spring Awakening at Dundee Rep Theatre.

Spring Awakening brought together students from across the disciplines in Musical Theatre, Music, Production Arts and Design and Production Technology and Management at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. They worked as equals alongside the Rep’s acting Ensemble and creative team to co-produce the show. SDTN invited staff and students from colleges and universities across our Network to attend and we were delighted that over 130 guests joined our exclusive pre-show talk. The cast and creative team, including Artistic Director Andrew Panton, talked openly about the creative process and the challenges that they faced. The audience asked insightful questions and put the cast on the spot by challenging them to describe their characters in one word.

After the Q&A, the cast, crew and guests enjoyed some light refreshments and a chance to mingle before a special 5pm performance of Spring Awakening. As part of their celebrations of the Year of Young People, Dundee Rep had offered a special ticket price of £5 to any young person between the ages of 16 and 25 and so the theatre was filled with an audience of young people. The production was spectacular and poignant as the cast and crew received a standing ovation from their peers.
