The annual Network workshop association with Film G continues and we had an excellent day’s work with Gaelic speaking students on the Television Course at Sabhal Mor Ostaig, the Gaelic Language and Culture College based on the Isle of Skye.
The 22 participants on the FilmG & Scottish Drama Training Network ‘Front of Camera’ workshop spent the day brushing up their acting and presenting skills with leading practitioners Morag Stewart and Artair Donald. The workshop, was delivered entirely through the medium of Gaelic. Tutor Artair Donald said: “It was great to see new talent coming to the fore and today’s event shows us that there could be a bright future for Gaelic drama.”
Hester Levack, a student at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig said: “I thoroughly enjoyed taking part and deepening my understanding of front-of-camera work, something that will be useful to me, whatever aspect of media work I’m eventually involved in. We practiced presenting short links to camera and also acted out scripts. We then looked back at what we filmed and received constructive criticism from the tutors. It was nerve-wracking, but really useful.”
It is hoped that the workshop will encourage participants to make their own films for the FilmG competition or to assist non-Gaelic-speaking filmmakers as part of the TalantG programme, which is run in conjunction with FilmG. The competition closes on the 6th January and requires the submission of a 3-5 minute short film in Gaelic. For more information visit www.filmg.co.uk.
FilmG is MG ALBA’s Gaelic online short film competition that aims to uncover new talent and ideas for BBC ALBA. The competition is open to anyone aged 12 or over to make a three- to five-minute short film in Gaelic.
