Dramatic New Buildings

David Hayman, the well known Scottish actor, director and humanitarian, officially opened Speirs Locks Studios, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama’s brand new Glasgow campus.
David, a former student, who attended the Academy between1966-9 is probably best known in recent times for his portrayal of DCSI Mike Walker in the long-running television series, TRIAL & RETRIBUTION. However, he has starred in dozens of films, television and stage productions and has also successfully directed a number of plays and films.
In his eloquent opening speech, David said: “This is not only a major milestone in the illustrious history of the RSAMD, but it also marks a significant moment in the continued development of Scotland’s thriving cultural industries.”
The state-of-the-art studios provide some of the most advanced performance and rehearsal facilities in the UK and contain four large dance studios, a Gyrotonics Suite, extensive wardrobe and design facilities, several machine halls for set design, building, prop making and a paint frame plus changing and shower facilities.
This exciting new development now houses all of the RSAMD’s Technical Production Arts and Modern Ballet students.
