Langside College
Welcome
In 1986 Langside College Glasgow was proud to become one of the first colleges in Scotland to offer full time qualifications in Acting and Performance. Nearly twenty five years later, we are nationally recognised as a centre of excellence providing three years’ continuous training in Acting and Performance at NQ, HNC and HND level. We also offer Higher Drama.
Many of our graduates are now firmly established in theatre companies throughout Scotland – and further afield – whilst others can be seen regularly on film or television as actors or presenters. Former students have performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and the National Theatre of Scotland. Others have moved into the world of alternative comedy. Many of our former students are now teachers or lecturers themselves.
All of our Acting and Performance courses revolve round the core skills of Acting, Voice, Movement and Production. We believe that all actors should have an understanding of technical skills as well as the ability to analyse texts from an actor’s or director’s viewpoint. Throughout the year we have six major performances including the Diploma Show to which agents and casting directors are invited. There are also numerous projects and opportunities to share work with other year groups . Our theatre company xlc was formed in 2001 to create a platform for both past and present students so they can apply their knowledge and skills in a professional environment.
Our success is due to the professionalism, energy and dedication of our staff, many of whom are still involved with professional theatre. We have always been very proud of our reputation but now from September 2010 we can also enjoy facilities which match the excellence of our training. We have just moved into our new iconic building which we share with the Music Section with its fully equipped theatre, studio theatre, dance studio, rehearsal room, practice rooms and workshop.
