Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is Scotland’s national conservatoire.

Over 800 students from almost 50 countries enjoy a unique high-level conservatoire experience in the performance and production of music, dance and drama. Our students, who are at the heart of all we do, enjoy world class facilities which support their individual development in a supportive atmosphere in which collaboration with professional organisations and individuals is encouraged and facilitated. We have close working relationships with BBC Scotland, the National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and a range of companies both in and beyond Scotland.

Our offer is diverse and specialist across drama, dance, and music: composition, classical and traditional music, jazz, opera, ballet, musical theatre, acting, digital film and TV, technical and production arts and contemporary performance practice. We are strong in performance-based research and celebrate innovation, collaboration and creativity in all we do. The sharing of our resources to develop young people, adults, and the wider community is a crucial aspect of our strategy to inform both the future identity and health of our society. Our Dance Drama&Musicworks programmes, specialist short courses, summer schools and Junior Conservatoire, reaching many thousands annually, continue to thrive and flourish.

Our facilities have been augmented by the addition of the Malcolm Fraser-designed Speirs Locks Studios which give us four exceptionally appointed dance spaces and wonderfully spacious creative technical and design studios. Our six professional performance venues stage over 400 public performances a year by students, staff, visiting international artists: concerts, recitals, plays, cabaret, devised performance, opera, pantomime, ballet, musical theatre, sessions, masterclasses.
