Macrobert Arts Centre
The Scottish Drama Training Network has partnered with the Macrobert Arts Centre to offer a unique careers day for senior pupils from schools in the Stirling area.
We are inviting pupils from schools in Stirling to come together on Monday 26 February 2018 to take part in a day of interactive workshops at the Macrobert Arts Centre. Each workshop will offer a unique skill and will reveal the variety of career pathways available in technical theatre.
Set Design and Construction
Join freelance set and costume designer Hazel Blue and set construction lecturer from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Zander Lee to learn about Set Design and Construction. Find out how a set designer plans their ideas and how this translates into construction and becomes a final realised set on the stage.
This workshop will also include a backstage tour of the Macrobert Arts Centre, where pupils can find out more about how a theatre runs.
QLab and AV Within a Theatre Production
Join experienced technicians from the Macrobert Arts Centre to learn about Lighting Design and AV. The workshop will feature a case study of recent festive show Eric the Elf. Pupils will learn about the challenges of the show and the steps taken to overcome them. There will be a demonstration of how an element of the piece was filmed and then manipulated with Q-Lab as well as a practical look at how to problem solve using design.
During our time at the centre there will be an Elizabethan Costume Exhibition. The costumes have all been created by staff and students Edinburgh College.
Anya Glinski, Head of Costume at Edinburgh College, will be delivering a talk about the process involved in making these incredible and intricate period costumes and answering questions that pupils have about costume making.
Workshops will be led by industry professionals who are subject specialists in their chosen fields. Please note, capacity for this event is limited to 30 places. Please identify senior pupils who will be most suited to this event. We recommend this event for senior pupils who are studying any of the following subjects: Art and Design, Graphic Communication, Physics, Drama, English, Technical and Computing/IT.
